Day trip to Tarragona

I went with a friend to Tarragona for a day from Barcelona with the train. It was really easy, and definitely worth visiting. If you want some tips on what to see in Tarragona and how to get there then keep on reading 🙂

We went with the train from Estacion de Francia, but you can also take the train from Barcelona Sants. Which ever is closer to your place will be fine, the type of train is Renfe, you can buy the tickets at the station or online. Tickets are around 8 euros for a single trip and the duration is around 1 hour 15 min to 1,5 hours depending from which station you leave.

When you arrive at the station in Tarragona you can easily walk to the city center. Tarragona isn’t that big so you can pretty much see everything you want to see in one day.

Here are a few things to see in Tarragona.

Balcó del Mediterrani viewpoint

At Balcó del Mediterranti you have a beautiful viewpoint of the beach and ocean of Tarragona. It is definitely worth checking out.

Reloj del Sol

A bit further from Balcó del Mediterrani you can find the Reloj del Sol where you also have a beautiful view of the ocean.

Roman Amphitheatre

Close to Balcó del Mediterrani you can find the Roman Amphitheatre. We didn’t enter, you can see it from above at the entrance. A ticket is 5 euros if you want to walk through the Roman Amphitheatre.

Walk down Rambla Nova

Rambla Nova is a big street with restaurants and beautiful architecture. Make sure not to skip it.

Part Alta

Part Alta is the old town, here you can find picturesque streets, all kind of boutiques and restaurants. The best way to discover the old town is to just wander around and get lost.

Cathedral

In the old town you can also find the beautiful Cathedral of Tarragona, it is worth it to just see it from outside. But if you also want to enter the Cathedral, a ticket is 5 euros.

Roman ruins in Part Alta

Tarragona is one of the oldest cities of Catalunya and therefore you can still find ruins all over the city like the Roman Amphitheatre. So make sure to keep your eyes open not to miss it 🙂

Carrer Major

Carrer Major begins from the square at the cathedral, here you can find all kinds of cute boutiques. You can also find some restaurants, and for the people that likes to take pictures for Instagram, this street is for you 🙂

the port

Tarragona is a seaside city, so you can also find a port here. It is definitely worth checking out, however keep in mind it is a bit further form the city center but still a walkable distance. Here you can find (small) boats and beautiful architecture. There are also a lot of seafood restaurants at the port.

Wander around

Tarragona is an old city, therefore has a lot of beautiful architecture. So keep your camera close because every street especially in Part Alta is worth making a picture of.
