I went to Girona for a day from Barcelona, it is such a beautiful place! If you have time for some daytrips, defenitely add this one to your to do list 🙂
We went with the train from Barcelona Sants and took the Rodalies train R11 towards Figueres, this train took about 1,5 hours because it stops at more stations, but there is also one that takes about 40 minutes and goes straight to Girona.
When you arrive you only have to walk a few minutes to the center.
Placa de la Independencia
The first thing we went to was this placa, it is full with restaurants where you can relax and take a break from sightseeing.

The Eiffel bridge
This bridge is designed by the famous Gustave Eiffel who also designed the Eiffel tower. Enjoy the beautiful views over the river from the different bridges.
Wander around the town
Girona has beautiful streets to wander around and it is easy to just get lost. Meanwhile you’ll come across many boutiques and restaurants.
Shop at the many boutiques
Like I said earlier, there are lots of boutiques in Girona where you can find the perfect souvenir to bring home. Wander around the city and come across the cutest boutiques.

Iglesia de San Martin
This is one of my favorite streets in Girona, from below there is an amazing view of the Iglesia de San Martin and midway of the street is an cafe where you can enjoy the view.

Rambla de la libertat
This street is full with restaurants, take a break and enjoy the delicious Spanish food.
Walk around the neighborhood El Call
El Call is the Jewish quarter, it was the centre of the Jewish communities and now it is full with picturesque streets and cozy restaurants / cafes. It is the perfect neighborhood to walk around and get lost.

Enjoy the views from the city wall
These 3 km long walls coming out of the 1st century BC are around the whole town and have amazing views over Girona.
There are 4 access points, and it is free. You can either walk the walls by yourself or book one of the tours. Read here more about the tours they offer.
Take a break at jardins de la Francesa
This garden lays behind the Cathedral of Girona and has amazing views over the city, because it is very calm it is the perfect way to take a break and eat something while enjoying the views.

Check out Catedral de Girona
This cathedral located on the highest point of the city was built in the 11th century, but completed in the 18th century. From above you have a great view of Girona and from below the view of the cathedral itself is amazing as well. If you want to enter a ticket is €7,50.
