Rome 4 day Itinerary

If you’re planning a trip to Rome and wondering how to fit everything in, don’t stress. Four days is actually a great amount of time to soak in the city’s history, food, and charm without feeling rushed. Rome is packed with ancient ruins, stunning art, delicious pasta, and those little cobblestone streets that make you want to wander without a plan. But having a rough itinerary helps a lot, especially in a city where there’s so much to see.

I’m the kind of person who prefers to take it slow and really soak in a few sights each day, rather than rushing around trying to see everything at once. I’d rather truly enjoy the vibe of the city and experience it fully, instead of cramming in a long list of attractions and only getting a surface-level feel for it. So my itinerary is all about a relaxed pace.

Here’s a day-by-day guide to make the most of your Roman holiday:

Day 1 – The heart of the city

Morning:
Start with a bang at the Colosseum. If you can, book a skip-the-line ticket or a guided tour—it’s 100% worth it to avoid the long queues and actually learn what you’re looking at. Afterward, explore the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, just next door. You’ll get sweeping views and a real feel for what ancient Rome was like.

Afternoon:
Head to the neighborhood Monti to walk around and find the most beautiful streets of Rome. Here you’ll also find cute boutiques and cafes. Perfect neighborhood to wander around and get lost.
