I went back to my favorite city (next to Barcelona of course) with a friend. We stayed in a new neighborhood for me, which was really nice and even though we both have been to Rome multiple times now we still did a lot on these 5 days. So keep on reading for more tips to add on your to do list 🙂
How to get there
We went from Barcelona with the plane to Rome, the flight takes about 2 hours. When we arrived we took the train from the airport to Termini which was 14 euros each and takes about 30 minutes. It is very easy to go from Termini station to where ever you are staying as it is already close to the city center. Last year I had to walk only 20 minutes from the station to my hotel. This time we were staying in the neighborhood Prati which was a bit to far to walk with our luggage so we took the metro, which took about 10/15 minutes and the stop was very close to our hotel.
Where we stayed
We stayed in Arie Romane Guesthouse, which we really liked and would definitely recommend. It has the perfect location, easy to get around in Rome and the metro stop is very close. Prati itself is a very nice, local and more calm neighborhood. There are many good breakfast spots, restaurants and cafes. And there are also lot’s of supermarkets. Overall really liked this neighborhood 🙂

Day 1, Saturday
we had our flight at 12:15 and arrived at 14:00 in Rome, with taking the public transportation we arrived about 15:30 at our hotel. After checking in, and getting ready we first went to look for some good italian food. We had really good pizza at Osteria Faruso, still in the neighborhood Prati. After that we walked around the neighborhood, checked some stores before we headed to the city center. Here we checked some bookstores: Spazio 7 (which has an amazing roof, definitely worth checking out) and Otherwise Bookshop which has English books 🙂 After, we wandered around some more and enjoyed very good Gelato.
In the evening we went for dinner in Prati at the restaurant Zig. The food was amazing here as well!

Day 2, Sunday
On Sunday we first had breakfast at a cute cafe (unfortunately I can’t find the name) , then we went straight to a private gallery called Doria Pamphilj which is absolutely stunning. If you have time to check this out you definitely should! A ticket is 17 euros, there are different opening hours so check their website for more information. After the gallery we walked for a bit before we stopped at a restaurant for lunch, at Ristorante Mazzè. When we finished we decided to check some more bookstores, first one we came across was Bori books (here they have English books as well). Next one was Ibs+Libraccio, they have a small section of English books.
We walked some more in the neighborhood Monti before heading home to get ready for dinner. We went for pizza again at Emma Pizzeria located in the city center. After dinner we decided to walk around to the Colosseum in the evening, it was so beautiful!

Day 3, Monday
We started the day with breakfast at this cute cafe called Ruberto in Prati. After we headed to the park Villa Borghese, here we walked around, relaxed a bit and read our new books. Later we went towards Campo Marzio to walk around and shop for a bit before stopping at Grano, Frutta e Farina Bistrot for lunch.
For the afternoon we went to one of my favorite neighborhoods Trastevere. Here we went for dinner as well at Ristorante da Cencia, were I had an amazing Pasta: Bucatini alla Amatriciana. Before heading home we walked around Trastevere in the evening, it is sooo beautiful.

Day 4, Tuesday
We started the day with breakfast at the same spot as yesterday, before walking around again and stopping at cute boutiques on the way. We walked a lot in Rome and was our main thing we did there, that is because we love the city with it’s beautiful streets and amazing culture and we just love to wander around. Plus we did most of the main sights the first time we went to Rome. Although we did walk to Fontana de Trevi, Colosseum and the Spanish steps. But it is full with tourists, especially in summer time so we mostly tried to avoid it as it wasn’t on our to do list anymore.
My friend met a friend in the afternoon, so I bought a small pizza piece on the way at Appetito Emporio Della, and ate it at a square. Which was really nice as well.
For the evening we decided to watch the sunset on our way to the restaurant (Felice a Testaccio).

Day 5, Wednesday
Our last day in Rome and also my birthday :), we had to check out first before going to the same breakfast spot as the days before. After we headed back to the park Villa Borghese to relax a bit before we had to pick up our luggage at the hotel. My friend wanted to see the grave of the pope and it was perfect that it is close to the Termini train station. We went back with the metro to Termini (also keep in mind that if you are visiting Rome in summer time the metro is very, very crowded). Here my friend went to the grave of the Pope, and then we went for lunch at restaurant Sapori e Delizie, before taking the train to the airport again.
And that was our trip to Rome :), hope you can get some tips out of this to add to your to do list. Enjoy your trip to Rome!
