Free things to do in Málaga

If you are traveling to Málaga, but don’t really have a big budget, then this post is for you. Luckily Málaga has enough (touristic) things to see that are absolutely free. Here are my favorites 🙂

Check out Jardines de puerta oscura

It is a small park but absolutely beautiful, it is designed by Fernando Guerrero-Strachan Rosado.

Parque de Málaga

This park out of 1896 is quite big and has lots to see, you’ll find the paseo de Málaga here as well. There are enough benches at the paseo and the park to sit and enjoy the views around you.

Watch the sunset at mirador de Gibralfaro

This was for me the absolutely beautiful and amazing thing I did in Málaga. It probably also has to do with that I am in love with sunsets, but these views are absolutely worth the climb. I already wrote a post about how to get there, you can check it out here.

Wander around the old town

The old town of Málaga is absolutely stunning. Here you’ll find endless boutiques, picturesque streets and many restaurants. Close google maps and get lost in the old town.

Shop at Calle del Marqués de Larios

This is THE shopping street of Málaga, here you’ll find amazing stores. Wander around and spend the money you don’t actually have 🙂 like me. In the summer they also have the festival Ganas de Feria here, and because of the festival this street will be decorated. The dates for this year are 17 August to 24 August.

Beach day at Playa de Malagueta

What is so amazing about Málaga is next to having a beautiful city full with picturesque streets, delicious food at the many restaurants and the beautiful sights is that they have a stunning beach as well. Take a break from all the sightseeing and enjoy your day at the beach!

Enjoy the calm at Jardines de Pedro Luis Alonso

This is my favorite park of Málaga, it is so beautiful. And for some reason even though this park is in the middle of the city it is so calm here. This park is designed in 1947 by Fernando Guerrero -Strachan.

Take a book with you and enjoy your time at this beautiful park.

Plaza de la Consitucion

in the middle of the city center you’ll find this square, before 1812 it was the main square of Málaga, after they renamed it to Plaza de la Consitucion. Many things were located here like the city council, the mayor’s house, the jail, and many other things. Now it is full of restaurants and stores, and often events are held here.

Plaza del Obispo

Here you’ll find the Bishop’s palace from 1762. On one side is the main entrance of the Cathedral. In the center of the square is a fountain that was built in the 18th century. Enjoy at one of the restaurants the view of the cathedral.

Walk around Ensanche Centro

In this neighborhood you’ll find lots of street art, it is really nice to walk around and spot the art. There are a lot of restaurants and coffee shops as well.

Watch the sunset at Puerto de Málaga

Here you can find lots of restaurants, but you can also go to the part in front of the restaurants, sit en enjoy the sunset.

Plaza de la Merced

Here was the famous Pablo Picasso born, and where you can find the museum Fundación Picasso museo Casa natal. The square was a public market in the 15th century. In the center of the square you’ll find the monument to Torrijos. Now this square is full with restaurants.

Enjoy your time in Málaga 🙂
