A few days in Rome

I went on a citytrip with a friend to Rome, unfortunately I got the flu while staying there. But luckily I still got to see some things when I felt better again. It sucked, but I can say I’ve got another reason to go back to Rome 🙂

Here are my tips on what to see and do in Rome.

Fontana di Trevi

One of the famous highlights of Rome is the Trevi fountain. The best time to check this out is really early in the morning. With early I mean around 6/7 AM 😉 The rest of the day especially in summer time it will be sooo crowded. The fountain is free, and if you want to make a wish don’t forgot to throw a coin!

Spanish steps

Architecturally, the Spanish steps represent the longest and widest staircase of Europe. You can find the Spanish steps on Plaza de España. It looks really beautiful, but probably crowded as well.

Monti Neighborhood

The Monti neighborhood is known for the pretty streets and boutiques. The best way to discover is to just wander around. It is my favorite neighborhood in Rome, if you have time to check it out you definitely should!

Villa Borghese

This is a huge park, with lot’s of sights and a beautiful viewpoint of Rome. Don’t skip this when you are here! The gardens were developed for the Villa Borghese Pinciana and built by the architect Flaminio Ponzio. Scipione Borghese used the villa as a villa suburbana (party villa). The gardens were remade in the 19th century.

Trastevere

Trastevere is a neighborhood on the other side of Rome, here you can also find beautiful streets, nice restaurants and boutiques to shop in. Definitely worth checking out!

Vatican city

Vatican city is most known because of the pope. Here you can see the St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums. Keep in mind that this is a very touristic place, so it is best to arrange the tickets before hand online. And even then you’ll probably have to wait in a long line.

To get to the top of the St. Peter’s Basilica you have to pay 10 euros. There are 551 steps, it is recommended to take the elevator for the first 231 steps 🙂

A ticket to the Vatican museum is 20 euros.

To find more information about the Basilica and museum go to their website.

Colosseum

Probably one of the most known sights of Rome is the Colosseum, it is definitely worth to check it out, even if only from the outside.

A ticket to enter is 18 euros, it is valid for the whole day. Find here more information on their website.

tip: you can use this ticket as well for the Roman Forum.

Check Tripadvisor for tickets as well.

Roman Forum

The Roman Forum is really close to the Colosseum, so if you decide to enter the Colosseum you should also check the Roman Forum out. For centuries the Forum was the centre of day to day life in Rome. Here they had such things like public speeches, elections, criminal trials and gladiatorial matches. It has been called the most celebrated meeting place in the world and history.

Like I said before the ticket of the Colosseum can be used as well for the Roman Forum and is only 18 euros.

Here you can find more information.

Pantheon

The Pantheon is a former Roman temple and Catholic church since AD 609. It is 5 euros to enter the church.

Coppedè neighborhood

This neighborhood is also known as the fantasy neighborhood. It is really small, but definitely worth checking out.
